Immediate dentures

Immediate dentures 

After extraction →  hemostasis → place in immediate denture → place for 24 hours → Don’t remove it cause if not tissue will swell up then cannot reinsert the denture dy → Recall after 24 hours

 

Classification of immediate dentures 

Conventional/classic immediate dentures (CID) Interim Immediate dentures (IID)
only anterior teeth remain or if patient is willing to have the posterior teeth extracted before immediate denture begins both anterior and posterior teeth are extracted at the same time and immediate dentures are provided
Long term prosthesis Short term prosthesis
Can be relined Requires new denture after healing 
Good stability Fair stability 
VDO is not maintained since all posterior teeth removed VDO maintained since posterior teeth maintained

-Need for relining and rebasing not so common 

Aid in stability of denture

Easy to construct and insert 
Poor esthetic value is pt has high lip line

Source of irritation to tissue 

Retention is a problem, adhesive required 
Indications :

-bony undercut X present

-lip line is normal

Indications :

Undercut present on labial and buccal section of residual ridge 

Indications :

Deep undercuts on buccal residual ridge 

High lip line and active lip

Contraindications :

-pronounced undercut

-fullness of lip will produce an unesthetic result

Contraindications :

Unusual active lip line

Contraindications :

Uneven contour of anterior residual ridge
